Geometry is a part of mathematics concerned with questions of size, shape, and relative position of figures and with properties of space. Geometry is one of the oldest sciences. Initially a body of practical knowledge concerning lengths, areas, and volumes, in the third century B.C., geometry was put into an axiomatic form by Euclid, whose treatment - Elements (Euclidean geometry) - set a standard for many centuries to follow

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) was founded in 1920. It has grown to be the world's largest organization concerned with mathematics education, having close to 100,000 members across the USA and Canada, and internationally. NCTM has published a series of math Standards outlining a vision for school mathematics in the USA and Canada.

The Mathematical Association (MA) is a professional society concerned with mathematics education in the UK. It was founded in 1871 as the Association for the Improvement of Geometrical Teaching and renamed to the Mathematical Association in 1897. It exists to 'bring about improvements in the teaching of mathematics and its applications, and to provide a means of communication among students and teachers of mathematics'
