Video Description:
Michael Murawski discusses Josef Albers's Homage to the Square: Aurora
(1951-55), part of the Kemper Art Museum's permanent collection.
Presented in conjunction with the Museum's Spotlight Series.
Josef Albers
(1888 - 1976) was a German-born American artist (geometric abstraction)
and educator whose work, both in Europe and in the United States, formed
the basis of some of the most influential and far-reaching art education
programs of the 20th century.
Geometric abstract art is a form of abstract art
based on the use of geometric forms sometimes, though not always, placed
in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective
(non-representational) compositions.
