Raul Garcia Zarate
Raul Garcia Zarate (1932, Ayacucho, Peru), is the
best known classical and popular guitar player of Peru.
The guitar in Andean music is used as an ensemble instrument in the string
bands of the Peruvian department of Ancash, as a solo instrument in the
department of Ayacucho, and as an accompanying instrument for singing
throughout the Andes. It is in the state of Ayacucho, however, with the
performance style of Dr. Raúl García Zárate, that the Andean guitar has
reached its highest development.

The Yavari is a genre of Inca origin. Spans much of the Andean region of Peru, being Arequipa, Huamanga, Cuzco and Huanuco, the departments where it is grown more roots and in different styles, especially that of Arequipa.
