Raul Garcia Zarate: El Condor Pasa

El Condor Pasa is a typical Inca dance, based on authentic Incan folk melodies. Around 1916, Peruvian composer Daniel Alomia Robles notated this popular traditional melody and used it as the basis for an instrumental suite. The English Lyrics, 'If I could, I surely would' words, are by Paul Simon (Simon & Garfunkel)!

Raul Garcia Zarate  (1932, Ayacucho, Peru), is the best known classical and popular guitar player of Peru.

The guitar in Andean music is used as an ensemble instrument in the string bands of the Peruvian department of Ancash, as a solo instrument in the department of Ayacucho, and as an accompanying instrument for singing throughout the Andes. It is in the state of Ayacucho, however, with the performance style of Dr. Raúl García Zárate, that the Andean guitar has reached its highest development.
